The Opportunity
As a Process Safety Engineer, you will take ownership of PSM systems and initiatives across the site. You’ll work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams to ensure robust safety practices, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in process safety performance.
You’ll act as a subject matter expert, influencing safety culture while implementing structured systems to identify, assess, and mitigate risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a deep understanding of process safety risks, controls, and overall program health across the facility
- Support the development and execution of short- and long-term PSM strategies aligned with site objectives
- Maintain and continuously improve OSHA PSM-compliant programs, ensuring audit readiness at all times
- Partner with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify risks and implement practical solutions
- Lead and support Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and work towards (or utilise) PHA leadership certification
- Support and drive Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) studies and recommendations
- Oversee Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) processes
- Track and report key process safety metrics (e.g., API-754 events, safety system activations) to drive performance
- Ensure effective management and accessibility of Process Safety Information (PSI)
- Conduct internal audits, gap assessments, and support external regulatory inspections
- Collaborate on incident investigations using Root Cause Analysis methodologies (e.g., 5-Why, FMEA, Fault Tree)
- Provide technical guidance to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and internal standards
- Support capital projects by ensuring safety reviews (e.g., HAZOPs, MOCs) are properly executed
- Promote a strong safety culture through training, engagement, and leadership interaction
Candidate Profile
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in chemical, petrochemical, or industrial manufacturing environments
- Demonstrable experience in Process Safety Management (PSM) within a high-hazard environment
- Strong knowledge of OSHA PSM regulations (29 CFR 1910.119)
- Proficiency with MS Office and exposure to technical databases
Preferred:
- Experience leading or facilitating PHAs
- Knowledge of LOPA methodologies
- Familiarity with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), SIFs, and SIL concepts
- Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, ASP)
- Experience with PHA software and structured RCA methodologies
Salary : $95,000 - $135,000
