Legal Secretary – Litigation Defense
Location: Sandusky, OH
Schedule: Hybrid (after onboarding)
Experience: Strong Litigation Defense background required
A respected regional defense firm is seeking an experienced Legal Secretary to support its busy Litigation Defense practice in the Sandusky office. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, detail‐driven, and comfortable managing multiple attorneys and deadlines in a fast‐paced environment. A hybrid schedule is available once training is complete.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive administrative and litigation support to defense attorneys
- Prepare, revise, and proofread pleadings, motions, discovery responses, subpoenas, and correspondence
- Manage attorney calendars, schedule depositions, mediations, hearings, and client meetings
- Handle state and federal e‐filing in accordance with court rules
- Maintain organized electronic and physical case files, including docketing deadlines
- Communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and experts
- Assist with trial preparation, including assembling exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders
- Support billing processes, including time entry and expense tracking
- Perform general administrative tasks such as dictation, mail processing, and document formatting
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience as a Legal Secretary or Legal Assistant in litigation defense
- Strong understanding of civil litigation procedures and court filing requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal document management systems
- Excellent proofreading, formatting, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with minimal supervision
- Professional communication skills and a client‐service mindset
- Experience supporting multiple attorneys simultaneously
