Controls & Automation Engineer – (PLC/HMI Development, Robotics & Systems Integration)

$75,000–$110,000 · Junior, Mid & Senior openings · Greater Milwaukee, WI · Join a controls integrator that has doubled in size annually — every project is custom, no two assignments are the same.

  • 2 years of PLC/HMI development experience — programming from scratch is a firm requirement
  • 25%–50% domestic travel to lead on-site system startups and custom integrations
  • $75,000–$110,000 — Junior, Mid, and Senior level openings available
  • U.S. citizen or Green Card holder required
  • Onsite position — Greater Milwaukee, WI; must reside within 45 minutes of Germantown
  • Full-time, direct hire | Health, dental, vision Simple IRA with company match
  • Annual holiday bonus and profit sharing — historically significant at all levels

This is a full-time, permanent career opportunity with a fast-growing controls integration firm that has been doubling in revenue annually. The environment here is deliberately non-repetitive — every project is a custom solution, and engineers regularly move between large-scale software integrations, conveyor sortation systems, robotic welding cells, and servo-driven motion applications. The company treats its engineers well: when production demands require weekend travel, comp days are applied immediately so you come back to a four-day weekend — no exceptions, no pressure to absorb it. If you want to own your projects, see your code run live on the floor, and work somewhere your name actually means something, this is the right move.

What you will be doing

  • Developing PLC and HMI programs from scratch for custom automation solutions including robotic cells, conveyor systems, and specialized test equipment
  • Engineering operator interfaces using FactoryTalk, Visual Studio, and C# for advanced software integration
  • Reading and editing electrical schematics in AutoCAD; ensuring panel designs meet BOM requirements and safety standards
  • Implementing industrial networking and safety protocols — EtherNet/IP, servo motion, vision systems, and safety controllers (NEC/OSHA compliant)
  • Serving as lead technical authority during on-site startups — traveling to customer facilities to oversee installation and final commissioning

What we are looking for

  • 2 years of professional PLC programming experience — Rockwell/Allen-Bradley RS500/RS5000 required; must write from scratch, not just modify existing code
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • Stable work history — minimum three years of tenure at prior employers
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically 25%–50% for system implementations
  • U.S. citizen or Green Card holder residing within 45 minutes of the Greater Milwaukee area

Strong pluses (not required):

  • Servo motion, motion controllers, or vision system experience
  • C# or SQL database programming ability
  • FANUC or robotic cell integration experience
