Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist II to join the Transfusion Medicine (Blood Bank) team. The ideal candidate will have strong blood bank experience and demonstrate the ability to perform complex laboratory testing, troubleshoot technical issues, maintain quality standards, and support patient care in a high-volume hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities- Perform complex clinical laboratory testing with accuracy and efficiency in accordance with CLIA standards.
- Conduct blood bank testing, including:
- Type & Screen
- Antibody Identification
- Direct Antiglobulin Test (DAT)
- Eluate Testing
- Red Cell Phenotyping
- Antigen Typing
- Perform blood product modifications including syringe aliquots and irradiation.
- Follow transfusion protocols, including:
- Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP)
- Emergency Release procedures
- Troubleshoot laboratory equipment, specimen issues, workflow concerns, and test result discrepancies.
- Perform quality control, proficiency testing, and ensure compliance with laboratory regulations.
- Prepare reagents, standards, and quality control materials.
- Monitor laboratory inventory and maintain adequate reagent and supply levels.
- Serve as a technical resource for laboratory staff.
- Train and mentor new employees and assist with educational activities.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science OR
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Biological Science OR
- Associate Degree in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Technology
- Bachelor's in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science: MT/MLS (ASCP) or MT/MLS (AMT)
- Bachelor's in Chemical/Biological Science: ASCP Categorical Certification in the specialty area
- Associate Degree: MLT (ASCP) or MLT (AMT)
- No experience required with a Bachelor's in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science and MLS/MT certification.
- Two (2) years of laboratory experience required for:
- Associate Degree with MLT certification, or
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical/Biological Science with ASCP categorical certification.
