Job Summary:
The Machinist is responsible for operating and maintaining machining equipment to produce precise parts and components. This role requires flexibility to meet business and customer needs, including reworking non-conforming outsourced materials to meet deadlines. Attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work in a high-speed manufacturing environment are critical for success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain lathes, milling machines, grinders, balancing machines, and spin test equipment.
- Perform highly sensitive work requiring precise measurements and adherence to tight tolerances.
- Review drawings, instructions, blueprints, or samples to ensure accurate production.
- Select appropriate machines, tooling, and settings for each task.
- Adapt tasks based on production needs and support on-time delivery by alleviating bottlenecks with sensitive parts.
- Check output for quality assurance, documenting or discarding defects as necessary.
- Identify the need for and perform routine machine maintenance and minor repairs.
- Maintain a clean and safe workstation in compliance with safety protocols.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and HSE teams to ensure smooth operations.
- Rework or finish defective materials supplied by others as needed.
- Contribute to team efforts by assisting with related tasks as required.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing, machining, or assembly.
- Proven experience operating lathes, milling, grinding, balancing, and spin test machines.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing procedures and processes.
- Deep knowledge of machining operations and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (ANSI Y14.5).
- Self-motivated, able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong coordination and mechanical skills.
- Proficient in basic arithmetic and computer skills.
- Familiarity with 5S and Lean Manufacturing principles.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to lift 20–50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate across departments.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Must be a team player with excellent communication skills.
Working Conditions and PPE Requirements:
- Work primarily in outdoor manufacturing areas.
- Comfortable working at heights up to 10 feet.
- Forklift operation may be required.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required for safety compliance.
