We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team in Memphis, TN. This role reports to the Director of Engineering and plays a key role in the design, analysis, and validation of elevator components and systems. Success in this position is defined by technical expertise, quality execution, and mentorship of junior engineers.
What You’ll Do:Design & Analysis
- Perform structural design and analysis of elevator components to ensure safety, durability, and adherence to engineering best practices.
- Develop and maintain elevator layout drawings per ASME A17.1 requirements.
- Prepare and maintain documentation for code compliance with ASME A17.1/CSA B44 and related standards.
- Manage and contribute to certification and compliance projects.
- Plan and execute test programs, including defining requirements, designing test equipment, collaborating with external partners, and reviewing results.
- Author and review technical reports documenting analysis, validation, and compliance.
- Provide engineering support for traction machines and hydraulic power units.
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure quality, compliance, and manufacturability of parts and assemblies.
- Lead new product development from concept design through validation.
- Drive continuous improvement, cost reduction, and supplier localization initiatives.
- Contribute to departmental transformation, including process standardization, tool/data harmonization, and training programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred. Candidates without a PE must hold or obtain EIT within one year.
- Minimum 10 years of mechanical/structural engineering experience; elevator industry experience highly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CAD software (SolidWorks or equivalent).
- Experience with GD&T, PDM/Enovia, and structural/fatigue analysis.
- Strong understanding of ASME A17.1/CSA B44 standards.
- Knowledge of DFMA principles and materials engineering (steel, aluminum, composites).
- Familiarity with test methods, instrumentation, and data analysis.
- Occasional travel (approx. 45 times per year) for customer visits, supplier meetings, and industry events.
- Communicates effectively and shares information clearly.
- Delivers highquality, accurate work and seeks continuous improvement.
- Demonstrates technical expertise and mentors team members.
- Organizes and prioritizes tasks across multiple projects efficiently.
- Manages resources and encourages high performance in others.
