Position: CNC Operator / Machinist
Location: Schaumburg, IL (initially), transitioning to Huntley, IL
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled CNC Operator / Machinist to set up, operate, and monitor CNC lathe machines. The ideal candidate will perform precision machining operations such as turning, boring, threading, and facing while ensuring product quality and adherence to safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC lathe machines for machining components.
- Perform machining operations including turning, facing, boring, drilling, reaming, threading, and tapping.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Verify dimensions of finished workpieces using measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
- Load raw materials into machines using lifting equipment as required.
- Monitor machining processes and make adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Identify and troubleshoot machine issues; replace worn tools and remove debris.
- Perform basic CNC programming and editing using GibbsCAM (or similar software) when needed.
- Conduct first-piece inspection and in-process quality checks.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Report equipment malfunctions or material defects to the supervisor.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Support team members and assist with tasks requiring multiple operators.
- Work overtime as required and adapt to changing production needs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience operating CNC lathe machines.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including fits and tolerances.
- Proficiency in using measuring tools and inspection equipment.
- Basic CNC programming knowledge (GibbsCAM preferred).
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work environments.
