Position: CNC Machinist / Mill Operator
Location: Schaumburg, IL for few months, then move to Huntley, IL
Job Description
Primary responsibilities are to set up, operate, and monitor CNC (computer numerically controlled) lathe and milling machines, performing machining operations such as turning, boring, threading, facing, and milling.
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Must be familiar with general lathe and milling machine operations and mechanical skills.
- Mechanical problem-solving ability and troubleshooting skills are a must.
- Must be able to read a tape measure, verify dimensions, use a straightedge, and other measuring devices.
- Have knowledge of machine drawings, fits, and tolerances.
- Must be able to operate lifting devices.
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to communicate both written and oral as it relates to the job.
- Must be adaptable to a changing work environment and able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
- Must possess basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Must be able to lift and handle components weighing up to 100 lbs.
- Must be able to work with others, as some tasks require two individuals.
- Must be able to work without constant supervision.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Ability to read programs and perform programming using GibbsCAM when needed.
- Operate CNC lathe and milling machines in the machining of components.
- Set up and operate CNC mills for operations such as face milling, slotting, drilling, tapping, and contouring.
- Measure workpieces and verify dimensions using appropriate tools.
- Be familiar with boring, drilling, reaming, threading, tapping, and milling operations.
- Select, install, and adjust cutting tools and tool offsets for both lathe and mill machines.
- Be familiar with the preparation of tools for machining.
- Load feed mechanisms by lifting stock into position.
- Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces.
- Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, threading, and milling operations.
- Detect malfunctions, replace worn tools, and clean debris from machines.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and ensure proper machine function.
- Report any faulty operation of equipment or defective materials to the area supervisor.
- Operate lifting devices for movement of materials and other equipment as needed.
- Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly.
- Abide by company safety and personnel policies.
- Carry out any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor as needed.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
