Job Title: Senior Quality Control Engineer / Electrical & I & C Inspector
Duration: 1 year (with possible extension)
Location: Aiken, SC
Short Summary about Job:
This role provides quality control support to the project team, directing personnel to implement quality requirements and accurately report results. The Senior Quality Control Engineer performs construction quality control inspection and surveillance activities in support of project and/or maintenance activities, with a specific focus on electrical and instrumentation & controls (I&C) systems. The position works under an ASME NQA-1 quality program within a DOE environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline and at least 5–7 years of practical experience in construction inspection or related areas.
- Associate’s degree and 7–9 years of practical experience considered equivalent.
- High school diploma and 10–14 years of practical experience also considered equivalent.
- Certification with continuing technical training is required for performance of inspections and surveillance activities; specialized training may also be required.
- Prior work experience under an ASME NQA-1 quality program.
- Prior DOE work experience.
- Well-developed organizational skills with good communication skills.
- Ability to foster a work environment that promotes safety, quality, openness, trust, communication, teamwork, and customer satisfaction.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. An active clearance is not initially required; the selected candidate will be notified when to apply based on specific work assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Practical field experience in electrical and I&C quality control within the last 16 months.
- Active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years preferred.
Miscellaneous/Additional Information:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develop, revise, and perform peer reviews of Quality Control Inspection Plans related to electrical and I&C, in accordance with design output documents, codes, and standards.
- Perform field inspections in accordance with Quality Control Inspection Plans; document results on applicable inspection records and issue Non-Conformance reports as required.
- Review product and process compliance with all specified drawings, specifications, and other requirements through inspection and/or review of supplied materials and equipment.
- Review design output documents per approved procedures to establish inspection requirements in quality assurance procedures, construction plans, and/or work packages.
- Coordinate with internal and external sources to resolve quality issues and provide status of inspection/test activities.
- Review technical criteria, personnel qualifications, and work sequence on work packages including the notation of hold points prior to performance of inspections.
- Perform or direct the quality inspection activities of subordinate QC engineers and other inspection personnel as assigned.
- Assist in the resolution of code, specification, and drawing interpretations.
- Assess the completeness of construction activities and quality verification documentation prior to preparation of quality control releases for turnover.
- Review subcontractor quality programs for compliance with established procedures; attend mobilization meetings and monitor activities for proper implementation.
- Review supplier and/or subcontractor quality verification documentation for traceability and specification compliance.
- Review, assess, and status subcontractor costs, manpower, and materials; approve subcontract invoices and applications for payment.
- Safety is a primary responsibility. Obtain safety training, obey safety rules, and make safety an integral part of each task. Take necessary steps to stop work if continuing is unsafe or will create an unsafe condition.
A 40-hour work week is scheduled utilizing various shift structures (5/8s, 4/10s, or 9/80s). Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables at the discretion of the Manager.
