Position Summary

The Electrical Engineer will support the design, analysis, modification, and operational support of electrical systems across the facility, ensuring compliance with nuclear industry codes and standards, regulatory requirements, and site-specific design basis documentation. This role is essential to maintaining the reliability and safety of electrical power systems in a high-consequence nuclear environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform electrical engineering design and analysis for facility systems including power distribution, motor control centers (MCCs), switchgear, transformers, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and instrumentation and control (I&C) interfaces
- Develop and review engineering calculations, design change packages, specifications, and technical evaluations in support of facility modifications and corrective actions
- Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable codes and standards including IEEE, NFPA 70 (NEC), 10 CFR 50, and applicable NRC regulatory guidance
- Support operability determinations and functionality assessments for degraded or nonconforming electrical equipment
- Provide engineering support during plant modifications, maintenance activities, and outages, including field walkdowns and as-built verification
- Evaluate electrical equipment qualification (EQ) documentation and support seismic qualification reviews for Class 1E and non-Class 1E systems
- Coordinate with operations, maintenance, I&C, and civil/structural engineering disciplines on multidisciplinary design efforts
- Review and disposition nonconformance reports (NCRs), condition reports (CRs), and engineering change requests (ECRs)
- Interface with regulators, vendors, and industry peers on electrical engineering matters as required
- Maintain and update facility electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, cable schedules, and associated design basis documentation
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution
- Minimum 5 years of electrical engineering experience in a commercial nuclear power plant, DOE nuclear facility, or comparable high-reliability industrial environment
- Working knowledge of IEEE nuclear standards (e.g., IEEE 308, 323, 344, 384, 603) and NEC/NFPA 70 requirements
- Experience developing or reviewing electrical engineering calculations, design change packages, and technical basis documents
- Familiarity with Class 1E electrical system design requirements and nuclear QA program requirements (10 CFR 50 Appendix B)
- Proficiency with electrical analysis tools such as SKM Power*Tools, ETAP, or equivalent software
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- U.S. citizenship required (position supports work subject to U.S. national security requirements)
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering
- Experience supporting NRC inspections, license amendment requests (LARs), or safety evaluation reports (SERs) related to electrical systems
- Familiarity with uranium enrichment facilities, gaseous diffusion or centrifuge technology, or nuclear fuel cycle operations
- Experience with digital I&C systems and cyber security requirements for nuclear applications (10 CFR 73.54)
- Knowledge of electrical equipment qualification (EQ) programs under IEEE 323 and 10 CFR 50.49
- Background in protection system design or safety-related electrical system design
- Experience with SAP or other enterprise work management and document control systems
