Position Overview
The Engine Build Technician II is responsible for assembling, building, and supporting high-performance engines and sub-assemblies designed, manufactured, or serviced by Roush. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, precision measurement skills, and detailed documentation to support engine build quality and performance. The technician will work in a hands-on shop environment supporting mission-critical engine programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and build engines and engine sub-assemblies using industry-standard assembly techniques
- Measure engine components to tight tolerances and verify part clearances
- Use precision measuring instruments including calipers, gauges, and micrometers
- Perform engine build documentation and maintain detailed component history records
- Utilize required hand tools and shop equipment safely and efficiently
- Diagnose mechanical engine issues and support troubleshooting efforts
- Follow all safety, quality, and procedural guidelines
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 4 years of engine build experience
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions
- Ability to operate common shop equipment (hoists, jacks, hand tools, etc.)
- Basic computer skills with strong organizational abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Flexible, adaptable, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or post-secondary education in an automotive or related technical field
- Experience with powertrain calibration diagnostics and controls
- Ability to perform full engine teardown and rebuilds and follow 543 charts
- Basic fabrication skills
- Welding and basic wiring experience
- Ability to diagnose electrical issues
- Experience setting up and testing engines using an engine dynamometer
- Willingness to work overtime, including weekends, as needed
