As a Core Sales Team Member covering Lawn, Garden, Farm, Pet, Grills, and Seasonal at Hartville Hardware Middlefield, you are the resident expert guests turn to when they need trusted advice on some of their biggest home and hobby investments. Whether someone is outfitting a backyard, stocking up on farm feed, or choosing the right grill for summer, you make the difference between a transaction and a great experience.
This full-time role is a hands-on mix of guest service, product knowledge, stocking, and merchandising — with a new mix of seasonal products keeping things fresh throughout the year. If you have a passion for outdoor living, farming, pets, or all of the above, and you thrive in a fast-paced retail environment, we'd love to have you on our team.
- Greet and assist guests in selecting lawn, garden, farm, pet, grill, and seasonal products with confidence and genuine care
- Offer knowledgeable advice on plant care, fertilizers, pest control, farm feed, pet supplies, grilling, and seasonal items
- Answer customer questions and provide practical solutions to their project and product needs
- Answer incoming calls in a timely and professional manner
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of department products, trends, and best practices
- Ensure product displays are neat, organized, and visually appealing at all times
- Stock shelves and maintain proper inventory levels, rotating seasonal products as needed
- Help set up and maintain seasonal displays that keep the department fresh and engaging
- Assist with receiving and stocking deliveries for the department
- Follow all safety procedures when handling products, tools, and equipment
- Keep the sales floor, aisles, and storage areas clean and well-organized at all times
- Use point-of-sale systems and store technology accurately to process transactions
- Experience or genuine interest in lawn care, gardening, farming, pet care, grilling, or seasonal home goods
- Previous retail or customer service experience preferred but not required — we will train the right person
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items such as bags of soil, mulch, pet food, and farm feed
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills with a natural desire to help people
- Willingness to learn and stay current on product trends and industry knowledge
- A positive, team-oriented attitude with a strong and reliable work ethic
- Comfort with point-of-sale systems and other store technology
- Availability for one evening shift per week until 7:00 PM and most Saturdays
