What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Director - Manufacturing position at Hoxton Circle?
30-50% domestic and international travel required
We’re partnering with a private equity-backed materials production company on the search for a Commercial Director to build and lead its commercial function.
The business has made significant investment into its US operations and is now in active production, creating the need for a dedicated commercial leader to take ownership of the next stage of growth. Reporting directly to the CEO and operating as a member of the executive leadership team, you’ll have responsibility for building the commercial strategy, customer base, supplier relationships and ultimately the team needed to scale the business nationally.
This is a true build opportunity rather than stepping into an established sales organization. You’ll have significant autonomy to create the commercial infrastructure from the ground up, while working closely with executive leadership and the company's private equity investor on broader growth strategy.
What you’ll be doing:
- Build and own the end-to-end commercial strategy across both sales and strategic sourcing
- Develop a national customer base and create long-term relationships with major industrial and manufacturing customers
- Identify, develop and manage strategic supplier relationships to support production and continued growth
- Structure and negotiate complex, high-value supply and customer agreements, including individual contracts worth $20M
- Own pricing strategy and commercial terms while balancing revenue growth, margins, supply requirements and risk
- Build scalable sales, account management and customer service capabilities as the business grows
- Establish the processes, systems and commercial infrastructure required to support a significantly larger organization
- Develop annual commercial plans and forecasts in partnership with Finance and Operations
- Identify new markets, customers, partnerships and other opportunities to expand the company's national footprint
- Represent the business externally with major customers, suppliers and other strategic partners
- Present commercial performance, market opportunities and risks to the CEO, executive leadership and private equity board
- Build and lead a high-performing commercial organization as the function scales
What we’re looking for:
- 15 years of progressive commercial leadership experience within materials production, heavy manufacturing, industrial products, chemicals or a closely related environment
- Significant experience working with large-volume materials and complex supply chains
- A track record of structuring and negotiating individual commercial agreements worth $20M
- Strong relationships across relevant customers, suppliers and industry partners
- Proven success building or significantly scaling a commercial, sales or business development function
- Exceptional executive presence, communication and negotiation skills
- The ability to operate equally effectively with customers, plant leadership, executive teams and investors
- A builder mentality and genuine desire to create the function rather than inherit an established commercial organization
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree welcomed
- Comfort with up to 50% travel domestically and internationally
Salary : $200,000 - $240,000
