What are the responsibilities and job description for the Banquet Captain position at Hotel Madison?
Position summary
Responsible for the coordination of setting up, serving and breaking down all banquet facilities. You will be responsible for the maintenance and organization of all facilities and equipment.
Essential functions
- Oversee catered, social and corporate events.
- Attend BEO meetings to ensure all details are noted.
- Assign specific tasks to staff servers to ensure specific objectives are met for day to day operations.
- Ensure that safety and sanitation codes are followed.
- Assist in training staff to recognize improper guest behavior.
- Assist in training staff proper etiquette and skills necessary to accomplish their job duties
- Coordinate culinary staff to get details of the menu, food preparation activities, and service standards.
- Participate in pre-shift event overview to ensure event details are communicated.
- Examine the cleanliness of the venue, such as the condition of the bathrooms, prior to a function.
- Ensure all elements of event space are ready before guests arrive, including the dining tables, bar, food, and beverages.
- Interact with meeting contact before and after event to respond to any special requests or last-minute adjustments.
- Monitor the activities of workers and guests and respond to questions, complaints, or comments that may arise.
- Ensure that charges incurred during event such as any consumables are relayed and entered into Delphi and HMS
- Collecting payment for additional costs may be necessary.
- Supervise cleanup, inventory, storage of supplies and equipment.
- Ensure overall guest satisfaction.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
- Be sure to perform, execute, as well as adjust to other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and education requirements
- High school or equivalent education preferred.
- Must have basic knowledge of service standards, guest relations, food and beverage preparations as well as etiquette.
- Ability to understand and apply basic math skills to configure room set up and appropriate guest set up.
- Excellent communication skills to communicate to guests and team members in high stress situations during banquet service.

- Constant standing and walking throughout shift
- Constant lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs
