We’re looking for a driven and curious Junior Backend Software Engineer to join our Platform team in San Francisco. In this role, you’ll work on the backend and distributed systems that power our real-time perception stack—from ingesting industrial video at scale, to supporting machine learning pipelines, to building production-grade APIs. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, data science, and product teams to ship high-impact features that directly improve the safety of millions of workers.

Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and scaling of Voxel’s perception and computer vision systems, powering real-time understanding of industrial environments
- Design and deploy distributed systems for video ingestion, processing, and inference across both edge devices and cloud infrastructure
- Build and secure cloud APIs, access control systems, and backend services that support the video platform and data pipelines
- Develop scalable and resilient services that enable low-latency event detection, real-time alerts, and historical video analytics
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including ML engineers, product managers, and researchers—to bring computer vision models into production
- Influence the team’s technical direction and uphold high standards in code quality, system design, and operational excellence
- Must be based in, or able to commute regularly to, the San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA for an on-site role
- 0–2 years of experience developing backend systems using REST APIs, containerized services, and microservices architecture
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical software engineering experience
- Exposure to building and scaling distributed systems, with hands-on experience using at least one of Flink, Kafka, or Kinesis for real-time data processing
- Practical experience using Kubernetes to deploy, monitor, and manage containerized workloads
- Working knowledge of at least one major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
- Experience contributing to machine learning or computer vision pipelines, particularly around data ingestion or processing infrastructure
- Experience designing and delivering production-ready backend or distributed systems in a collaborative team environment
- Background in video analytics, computer vision, or safety-related industrial products
- Directly impact the safety and well-being of millions of essential workers by deploying AI in high-impact real-world environments
- Help build a category-defining AI platform at an early stage, with significant ownership and influence on technical direction
