You’ll work within their Legal Bill Analysis Center of Excellence (LBACOE), performing expert legal invoice auditing and quality assurance on a high volume of complex legal bills.

You’ll work within their Legal Bill Analysis Center of Excellence (LBACOE), performing expert legal invoice auditing and quality assurance on a high volume of complex legal bills.

Responsibilities
- Conduct expert peer reviews of invoice analysts’ work to ensure accuracy, compliance with billing guidelines, and proper application of UTBMS task, fee, activity, and expense codes
- Assess legal context and terminology within invoices, correcting adjusted and non-adjusted line items and documenting clear, guideline-based justifications for all changes
- Serve on the Appeals Team, drafting written communications to law firms, mediating disputed invoice adjustments, and preparing summaries for internal stakeholders and clients
- Collaborate with audit, appeals, and business partners to interpret client billing guidelines, resolve complex legal invoicing scenarios, and identify process improvement opportunities
- Provide feedback to the client’s Artificial Intelligence / Decision Science team to enhance machine learning functionality for legal invoice auditing
- Perform periodic audits and data analysis to support performance metrics, organize workflow to review invoices promptly and accurately, and maintain professionalism while working independently with minimal supervision
- Must currently reside in Minnesota, USA, within commuting distance of St. Cloud, MN or Minneapolis, MN, and be able to work on-site 2 days per week in either location
- At least 3 years of experience in legal billing, invoice review, or related litigation/insurance defense practice involving billing guidelines
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
- Demonstrated experience applying legal billing guidelines and UTBMS task, fee, activity, and expense codes in a professional setting
- Proven track record of producing legal writing or detailed written analyses (e.g., motions, opinions, appeals, invoice justifications) that reflect excellent written communication skills
- Proficiency with electronic legal billing (e-billing) software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Professional working proficiency in French, German, Italian, and/or Spanish
- Experience handling medical malpractice matters or reviewing legal invoices related to medical malpractice
- Background in appeals, fee dispute resolution, or mediation related to legal billing or invoice adjustments
- Experience collaborating with data science or AI/machine learning teams on legal invoice auditing, billing tools, or similar legal tech initiatives ———
