Construction Accountant

About the Opportunity
Our client is a well-established commercial real estate owner, developer, and property management company with a substantial portfolio of office, industrial, retail, and mixed-use properties across Long Island.
They are seeking a Construction Accountant to join their Accounting & Finance team. Reporting directly to the Assistant Controller, this role will support construction and development projects through job cost accounting, construction accounts payable, project reporting, and financial analysis.

Responsibilities
• Process a high volume of construction and development invoices.
• Review invoices for accuracy, approvals, and proper job cost coding.
• Maintain accurate job cost records and supporting project documentation.
• Coordinate vendor payments in line with company policies and schedules.
• Monitor construction-related accounts payable activity.
• Assist with job cost reporting, project reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Track project budget changes, ensuring appropriate documentation and approvals.
• Work closely with Project Managers, vendors, and internal teams to resolve invoice discrepancies and payment issues.
• Support month-end close activities and additional accounting projects as needed.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 2 years’ experience within construction accounting, real estate development, or another project-based accounting environment.
• Strong understanding of job cost accounting, construction AP, and project accounting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as MRI, Yardi, Sage, Viewpoint, or similar platforms.
• Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
