Location: NYC Metro Area
Compensation: $140,000 - $180,000 Bonus
A well-established and rapidly growing construction contractor is seeking a Controller to lead its accounting and finance function.
With a strong reputation across commercial, institutional, and infrastructure projects, the company has built a loyal client base and a healthy backlog of work. As the business continues to scale, leadership is looking for a hands-on finance professional who can bring structure, insight, and strategic support to the organization.
This is more than a traditional accounting role. You'll serve as a key business partner to ownership and operations leadership, providing the financial visibility needed to drive growth, improve profitability, and support critical business decisions.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead all accounting and financial operations across multiple entities
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
- Manage job costing, WIP reporting, revenue recognition, and project profitability analysis
- Partner closely with Project Executives and Operations leaders to improve financial performance across active projects
- Develop budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
- Monitor company liquidity, banking relationships, and working capital
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes
- Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements
- Evaluate and improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting capabilities
- Mentor and develop a growing accounting team
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 8 years of accounting experience within construction, engineering, infrastructure, or project-based industries
- Previous Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Construction Accounting leadership experience
- Strong understanding of WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, job costing, and project forecasting
- Experience managing accounting teams and cross-functional stakeholders
- Strong ERP and Excel skills
- Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on when needed
