As a Fitter / Fusion Operator, you will play a key role in installing and maintaining underground natural gas distribution piping systems. This hands-on position supports construction and maintenance operations by performing pipe fusion and pipefitting work in compliance with industry standards and safety protocols. Working under the direction of a foreman, you’ll ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and with high quality.

Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will:
- Construct, install, and maintain natural gas piping systems and related utility components.
- Perform pipe joining using fusion, electrofusion, and mechanically coupled joints.
- Conduct quality assurance checks to verify specifications are met.
- Maintain all required Operator Qualifications and ensure compliance with installation standards.
- Promote and uphold a culture of safety for yourself and team members.
- Prepare worksites for efficient operations, including clearing debris and optimizing construction workflows.
- Load, unload, and stage tools, equipment, and materials to support daily work.
- Excavate and prepare trenches for pipe installation; assist with pipe placement, wrapping, sealing, and bedding.
- Set up temporary structures, manage traffic control signage, and assist equipment operators as needed.
- Clean and maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Follow safety and incident reporting procedures, escalating concerns to the foreman or supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor environments.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and safety procedures.
- Strong understanding of pipefitting techniques and construction practices.
- Ability to recognize and address unsafe conditions with a commitment to following strict safety procedures.
- Capability to work effectively within a team and support project objectives.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; vocational training is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in the gas utility or underground construction industry is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of natural gas installation standards and construction practices.
- Certifications related to pipeline operations (e.g., Operator Qualifications, fusion training).
Physical Demands:
This role requires sustained physical effort including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items up to 50 pounds, prolonged walking and standing, and performing strenuous tasks under varying environmental conditions. Excellent stamina, agility, and physical resilience are essential.
