What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shift Manager position at Highlands Butchery?
Highlands Butchery & Bar is seeking a hands-on Shift Manager who can confidently operate in both Front of House and Back of House environments and lead from the floor.
This is not a clipboard role. This is a lead-from-the-front position for someone who can step into any station, solve problems in real time, and elevate the performance of the team around them.
What We’re Looking For
You must have demonstrated competency in both FOH and BOH operations and be comfortable jumping in wherever needed:
- Running expo, line, or prep when the kitchen needs support
- Assisting on the floor, bar, or host stand during peak service
- Maintaining composure and leadership during high-volume shifts
We are looking for someone who sets the tone, not someone who waits to be told what to do.
Core Responsibilities
- Oversee service quality and efficiency during shifts
- Uphold rigorous cleaning and sanitation standards across all areas
- Cash handling and register management (accuracy, accountability, closeouts)
- Act as the point of contact for staff and guest issues during service
- Ensure adherence to Highlands standards of hospitality and execution
- Support training and development of staff through example
Preferred Experience
- Prior shift lead or management experience in a full-service restaurant
- Strong working knowledge of both kitchen and service operations
- Catering or event experience highly preferred
- Familiarity with POS systems (Toast experience is a plus)
Schedule & Expectations
- Weekend availability required (Friday–Sunday)
- Evening and peak-hour availability expected
- Ability to work on your feet for extended periods in a fast-paced environment
