Position Overview:
We are partnering with a premier Piping Contractor in the Pittsburgh, PA area to identify a seasoned Piping Fabrication Production Manager.
Supervisor to lead laser cutting, forming, and welding operations in a fast-paced fabrication job shop. This role oversees day-to-day production, people leadership, quality, and safety to deliver accurate work on short lead times while balancing multiple priorities.
This position requires sheet metal fabrication and job shop experience. The environment is deadline-driven and requires flexibility to manage multiple projects while re-prioritizing quickly and efficiently.
The Production Supervisor manages production personnel and workflow to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate output that meets quality standards and schedule commitments.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct material flow to the appropriate machine/department and drive work through completion.
- Supervise operators and equipment across laser cutting, punching, waterjet cutting, press brake/forming, and welding.
- Identify, evaluate, and improve production processes to increase safety, quality, and throughput.
- Enforce quality standards; audit finished products before release.
- Model and enforce company policies, work standards, and ethical expectations.
- Coach, train, and develop production team members; provide performance feedback and documentation.
- Escalate personnel matters to management as needed and partner on corrective actions.
- Request needed tooling, equipment, and repairs; help prioritize maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Promote a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with site safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Facilitate effective communication between management and production teams.
- Coordinate onboarding and cross-training to ensure coverage, skill growth, and consistent workmanship.
- Monitor production activity on the floor to ensure adherence to work instructions, quality requirements, and safety practices.
- Inspect equipment for safety and functionality; support preventive maintenance efforts.
- Plan and prioritize work to meet short lead times, balancing quality, cost, and throughput.
- Lead and motivate the team to achieve output goals while maintaining high quality standards.
- Track and report production performance, labor utilization, and key shop metrics.
- Maintain accurate documentation of employee training and performance as required.
- Maintain records for equipment, supplies, and budget items; provide visibility to management for review.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing large pipe production projects
- Strong leadership and team management skills with a proven track record of success
- Deep understanding of project controls, budgeting, and scheduling
- Excellent communication and multitasking abilities
