What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Electrical Engineer position at Hidonix Industries?
Senior Electrical Engineer
Experience: 7–10 years
Location: Los Angeles, CA (Santa Monica) – On Site
Salary: 125-130K Annually
Team: Research & Development
Benefits: Full Comprehensive Benefits & Flexible PTO
About the Role
This role is an opportunity to take a technical leadership position within Hidonix’s R&D organization, owning the electrical architecture behind our next-generation robotics systems. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will drive system-level design decisions, lead complex hardware development efforts, and mentor engineers while remaining deeply hands-on.
The ideal candidate will design advanced multi-layer PCBs, power systems, RF subsystems, and sensor integrations, taking products from early concept through validation and into low-volume production. This role works closely with mechanical, firmware, robotics, and product teams and is ideal for an engineer who thrives on ownership, rigor, and building hardware that ships.
Role & Responsibilities
Electrical Architecture & PCB Leadership
- Own system-level electrical architecture for complex embedded and robotic platforms.
- Lead end-to-end design of high-complexity, multi-layer PCBs — from schematic capture through layout oversight, fabrication, validation, and revision.
- Define board stack-ups, impedance requirements, power-domain partitioning, and interface strategies for high-performance ARM-based systems.
- Set component selection strategy, qualify critical parts, maintain BOMs, and guide vendor engagement through prototype and low-volume production.
- Review and approve schematics, layouts, and design changes across multiple boards or subsystems.
Power Systems & Battery Architecture
- Architect robust, high-efficiency multi-rail power delivery systems supporting processors, sensors, motors, and communication modules.
- Lead lithium-polymer battery management, charging, protection, and safety architecture for portable and wearable robotic systems.
- Analyze and optimize power integrity, transient behavior, thermal performance, and system efficiency under real-world operating conditions.
- Guide power-related trade studies and risk assessments.
RF & High-Speed System Design
- Own RF subsystem architecture, including antenna strategy, coexistence planning, and module integration for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS, and cellular.
- Lead high-speed interface design (DDR, eMMC, USB, MIPI, PCIe where applicable), ensuring signal integrity across complex stackups.
- Use VNAs, spectrum analyzers, SI/PI simulation tools, and lab measurements to validate and optimize RF and high-speed performance.
- Drive EMI/EMC mitigation strategies early in the design cycle.
Sensor, Peripheral & System Integration
- Architect and integrate IMUs, GNSS receivers, barometers, cameras, and other sensing subsystems into low-noise, high-reliability designs.
- Design and review analog front ends, signal-conditioning circuits, protection networks, and grounding strategies.
- Lead performance benchmarking, environmental testing, and design iteration for robustness and manufacturability.
Prototype Bring-Up, Validation & Debug
- Lead prototype bring-up, electrical validation, and design verification at board and system levels.
- Drive structured root-cause analysis for complex hardware failures and guide corrective design actions.
- Set validation strategies, test plans, and acceptance criteria aligned with product and system requirements.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, firmware, and robotics teams to ensure tight electromechanical integration.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
- Mentor and technically guide mid-level and junior electrical engineers.
- Lead design reviews and contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and documentation quality.
- Maintain rigorous design documentation, revision control, and release artifacts.
- Participate in roadmap planning, architectural discussions, and cross-functional technical decision-making.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
- 7–10 years of professional experience in embedded hardware, robotics, or complex electronic systems.
- Deep expertise in multi-layer PCB design and review (Altium, KiCad, or equivalent), including controlled impedance and high-speed layout.
- Strong foundation in analog and digital circuit design, power electronics, and signal integrity.
- Demonstrated experience leading RF design and antenna tuning with lab-based validation.
- Advanced hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, VNAs, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, and power analyzers.
- Proven ability to lead complex hardware projects from concept through validation.
- Excellent documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with DDR and other high-speed memory interfaces and SI/PI simulation workflows.
- Strong background in DFM/DFA, EMC/EMI compliance, and thermal design.
- Experience supporting product certification and regulatory validation.
- Prior experience mentoring engineers or acting as a technical lead.
- Hands-on prototyping, soldering, and rework experience with fine-pitch components.
Other Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent Green Card holder.
- Must be within commuting distance of Santa Monica, CA.
