Location: Wellford, SC
Schedule: Monday–Friday | On-Site
Position Type: Full-Time
About the Opportunity
Our client, an established manufacturer of specialized tools and equipment, is hiring a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a newly formed product development group.
This is a hands-on product-development role for an experienced engineer who can independently move mechanical products and machines from initial concept through analysis, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and release. You’ll work closely with engineering, manufacturing, sales, and customers to develop practical products that improve safety, efficiency, and performance in the field.
The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical design and engineering-analysis capabilities with a thorough understanding of machining, fabrication, assembly tolerances, and design for manufacturability.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the mechanical design and engineering of new products and machines
- Take projects from initial concept and design through prototyping, testing, validation, and production release
- Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, drawings, and technical documentation
- Analyze designs for strength, function, manufacturability, lifespan, reliability, and performance
- Perform engineering calculations involving strength, fatigue life, gears, chain drives, and related mechanical systems
- Apply sound design-for-manufacturing principles throughout product development
- Collaborate with fabrication, machining, welding, assembly, and other manufacturing teams
- Oversee and support prototype fabrication, testing, troubleshooting, and design improvements
- Identify and resolve technical issues during development and after product launch
- Coordinate with customers regarding product ideas, field-testing units, and performance feedback
- Support sales personnel with technical product questions
- Assist with technical manuals, product documentation, and internal design reviews
- Present concepts and recommendations to multiple levels of the organization
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- At least three years of mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD and solid-modeling software
- Strong understanding of machining, fabrication, and assembly tolerances
- Experience designing products for manufacturability
- Ability to perform mechanical engineering analysis and calculations
- Knowledge of welding, sheet-metal fabrication, machining, metal casting, assembly, and coatings
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects and solve technical problems independently
- Strong mechanical aptitude and communication skills
- Comfort presenting technical ideas to engineering, manufacturing, leadership, and other stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing machinery, tools, equipment, or other manufactured products
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, DraftSight, or other 2D CAD software
- Basic electrical engineering knowledge
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, machining, fabrication, or assembly
- Experience supporting products throughout their full lifecycle
This is an opportunity to play an important role within a growing product-development group and help bring new mechanical products from an initial idea into full-scale manufacturing.
