Paralegal/E-Discovery - Commercial & Civil Litigation
Overview
Our regional law firm client is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join its Litigation Department. This role supports attorneys handling complex commercial and civil litigation matters and requires a strong command of litigation procedures, e-discovery practice/ESI, and trial preparation. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of managing high-volume matters in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general and case-specific e-discovery training to attorneys and paralegals.
- Manage database creation, data and document intake, search term development, culling, document review, indexing, tagging, coding, and document searching.
- Coordinate with attorneys and vendors on production specifications and the use of productions for depositions and trial exhibits.
- Establish user accounts, oversee vendor relationships, and coordinate external services.
- Develop best practices, tracking documentation, and timelines for collection, processing, review, and production.
- Coordinate and assist with collection of data.
- Analyze and archive client data and productions from all parties.
- Work with attorneys and clients to identify ESI sources and collection methods.
- Partner with vendors to prepare cost estimates and define workflows, workspaces, and production protocols.
- Collaborate with attorneys to create coding panels for relevance, privilege, and issues, and track review progress to meet deadlines.
- Provide comprehensive litigation support to attorneys from case inception through trial and post-judgment enforcement;
- Draft, review, and finalize legal documents including pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, memoranda, and enforcement filings;
- Manage all phases of discovery, including document collection, review, production, and preparation of privilege logs;
- Oversee e-discovery workflows, including coordination with vendors, database management, and document review platforms;
- Prepare and file court documents in State and Federal courts (NYSCEF and PACER), ensuring compliance with court rules and individual judge practices;
- Conduct legal and factual research using Westlaw, Lexis, and other tools;
- Assist attorneys with depositions, hearings, arbitrations, and mediations, including preparation of exhibits and witness materials;
- Lead trial preparation efforts, including exhibit management, trial binders, deposition designations, and coordination of trial logistics;
- Maintain case calendars, track deadlines, and ensure timely filings and deliverables;
- Organize and maintain complex case files, including large-scale document productions and correspondence; and
- Liaise with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and third-party vendors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate preferred;
- 3 years of litigation experience, with significant exposure to e-discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation in State and Federal courts;
- Hands-on experience with e-discovery tools and document review platforms;
- Proficiency with NYSCEF, PACER, and litigation support technology;
- Strong working knowledge of court rules, procedures, and litigation workflows;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe;
- Familiarity with document management systems (e.g., iManage or similar); and
- Experience using Westlaw and Lexis for legal research.
