- Apply ICD-9 and ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases) coding systems to accurately classify diagnoses and conditions.
- Ensure proper use of ICD coding conventions to maintain compliance with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines.
- Perform medical record abstraction to extract relevant data for billing, research, or quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with medical billing and revenue cycle teams to facilitate accurate claim submission and resolve coding discrepancies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding changes, healthcare regulations, and best practices in electronic health records (EHR) management.
- Support medical office staff by providing detailed documentation reviews and ensuring proper coding for cardiovascular services.
- Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems and EHR platforms effectively for billing, coding, and record management purposes.
- Assist in medical collection efforts by ensuring accurate coding that supports timely reimbursement processes.
Experience
- Proven experience in medical coding within a healthcare setting, specifically with cardiovascular procedures and diagnoses.
- Strong understanding of CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding conventions related to cardiology.
- Familiarity with medical billing processes, revenue cycle management, and medical record abstraction techniques.
- Experience working with EMR systems and EHR platforms for billing and coding purposes.
- Knowledge of DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) assignment processes relevant to hospital inpatient stays.
- Background in medical terminology, medical records review, and electronic health records (EHR) management is essential.
- Prior experience in a medical office environment or healthcare facility is preferred but not mandatory.
