Why does the job exist?

The Senior Social Services Coordinator will:

  • Administer both State and Federally Funded food programs and initiatives to supplement food-insecure households across the state by distributing USDA commodities and state funds food through a network of regional food banks and recipient agencies;
  • Emphasize equitable access, especially in tribal and rural communities, and is guided by strategic planning, advisory input and rigorous oversight.

How does it get done?

The Senior Social Services Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Monitoring program operations to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations;
  • Reviewing and approving all reimbursement invoices, ensuring expenses are allowable;
  • Tracking expenditures across contracts, grants, and funding streams, and manage procurement processes, including RFP development, PORFs, and purchase order change orders;
  • Incorporating a State Advisory Board NM Association of Food Banks into the planning process to guide strategic decisions;
  • Entering contracts into Bonfire, route for approval, and monitor progress until fully signed and executed;
  • Ensuring timely reimbursement and consistent grant monitoring and full expenditure of funds by deadlines;
  • Collecting and compiling monthly reports detailing the number of people, households, and sites served and total food expenditures;
  • Establishing and maintaining reporting metrics and KPI systems to evaluate program impact;
  • Leading and coordinating monthly meetings between HCA and the food banks;
  • Cross training, supporting and backing up the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP);
  • Maintaining effective and transparent communication with food banks, USDA, state agencies, HCA leadership and the Governor's Office.

Who are the customers?

  • New Mexico Schools and food banks participating in USDA Donated food programs;
  • The New Mexico SNAP eligible population;
  • All other New Mexicans experience food insecurity.

Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate has:

  • Knowledge of state procurement;
  • Experience working with USDA foods, food banks and SNAP;
  • Experience receiving, storage and inventory management including software usage and data input.

Minimum Qualification


Associate's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Family Studies/Services, Social Sciences, or Human Services and one (1) year of experience as a social work assistant and/or in social or community coordination, working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, and/or behavioral health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate.

Position requires in state and out of state travel.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting: late hours and weekends work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel may be required. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints. Must have own mode of transportation. Incumbent may be required to furnish a personal vehicle for carrying out assignments.

Bargaining Unit Position

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.

Salary : $55,273 - $82,909
