Why does the job exist?
This position exists to support the mission of OAAA by serving of the Health Advocacy Coordinator by playing a crucial role in improving health outcomes among Black/African American residents statewide. This position leads the planning, organization, and implementation of culturally responsive health programs, outreach initiatives, and community-based interventions. The coordinator will also support the full spectrum of OAAA's focus areas by providing resources, building relationships, and driving strategies that advance overall community well-being and equity.How does it get done?
Duties of this position include:* Lead health outreach initiatives and develop programs that address disparities affecting Black/African American communities in New Mexico.
* Plan, organize, and execute statewide health-focused events, resource fairs, workshops, and community programs.
* Work collaboratively with community health organizations, hospitals, clinics, public health departments, and statewide partners.
* Conduct presentations on OAAA health initiatives, resources, and data insights.
* Attend and actively participate in statewide health, community, and government meetings.
* Develop strategies to improve engagement with local and state agencies, educators, and health-care stakeholders.
* Build and strengthen collaborations with health-care providers, nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and advocacy groups.
* Represent OAAA at statewide conferences, community forums, and outreach events.

This position serves Black/African American business owners, entrepreneurs, aspiring homeowners, community leaders, economic partners, and families across New Mexico, especially those in marginalized or under-resourced communities.Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will:* Have a background in developing sustainable programs and program management.
* Knowledge or experience in programs in health care, public health, health education and/or community health work.
* Experience in community engagement and outreach.
* Be a self-starter, independent thinker, and innovative problem-solver.
* Have skills in interpersonal communication, networking, and relationship-building, presentations, and writing.
* Be willing to travel statewide.
* Have a passion about advocacy, community empowerment, and advancing health equity for Black/African American residents across New Mexico.
Minimum Qualification
Associate's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Family Studies/Services, Social Sciences, or Human Services and one (1) year of experience as a social work assistant and/or in social or community coordination, working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, and/or behavioral health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.Working Conditions
Work is performed both in an office and out in the community with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage. This position will also require occasional lifting up to 50 pounds or less. This position is required to travel and work non-traditional hours due to programming.Supplemental Information

Bargaining Unit Position
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.Salary : $55,273 - $82,909
