What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Accounting position at Headfarmer?
Headfarmer is partnering with a well-established, dynamic real estate development company with hundreds of entities nationwide. We are looking for a seasoned accounting leader with at least 10 years of corporate accounting experience who's excited to be hands-on with month end and day to day accounting functions, while also assisting with higher-level process improvement projects.
You're the ideal fit if you have real estate industry experience along with strong multi-entity accounting experience across complex environments.
Work model: Monday thru Friday fully in office
Location: Central Scottsdale
This is a contract engagment for approximately 6 months, so candidates must be available to interview and start right away.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead month-end and accounting operations for a large portfolio of real estate development projects across multiple entities
- Oversee and manage intercompany transactions, reconciliations, consolidations, and elimination entries
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Prepare and review monthly and annual financial statements and management reporting packages
- Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, lender reporting, and compliance requirements with external auditors and third-party advisors
- Oversee construction and development accounting, including project costs, capitalization, and development budgets
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team
- Drive process improvements and maximize the functionality of Yardi and Sage to improve reporting and system efficiency
Education, qualifications and skills required:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business
- 10 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within the real estate space
- Must have extensive multi-entity accounting experience in large, complex organizations
- Advanced Excel experience Yardi and Sage Intacct experience
- Proven ability to lead and develop accounting teams while also being hands on in the day to day accounting operations and month end functions
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with a continuous improvement mindset
