What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Accounting position at Southwest Accounting Resources, Inc?
The Director of Accounting will lead an accounting management team, directly supervise two Controllers overseeing a staff of 20 accountants, and partner closely with the SVP of Financial Operations on strategic initiatives, operational improvements, and departmental direction.
This is far more than a traditional “close the books” accounting role.
The company is looking for someone who can:
• Lead and develop high-performing accounting teams
• Drive accountability, operational efficiency, and process improvement
• Standardize workflows and improve reporting through data and analytics
• Navigate complex financial conversations with boards and leadership teams
• Serve as a technical accounting resource across the organization
• Help scale systems, controls, reporting, and accounting operations
• Partner cross-functionally with operations, IT, training, and business development teams
Additional areas of responsibility include:
✔ Oversight of monthly financial reporting and reviews
✔ Managing complex multi-entity accounting environments
✔ Supporting audits, internal controls, and SSAE-18 / SOC compliance
✔ Leading accounting integrations for acquisitions
✔ Developing KPIs, dashboards, and departmental metrics
✔ Driving technology enhancements and accounting system improvements
✔ Coaching and mentoring Controllers and accounting staff
Ideal background:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• 5 years of accounting leadership experience
• Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise
• Advanced Excel skills including Power Query, macros, pivot tables, and large data analysis
• Experience leading teams
• CPA preferred
