Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, is responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of the financial functions of the gaming operation and resort, including financial statement generation, operational analysis and routine processing of all accounting information such as general accounting, tax, payables, payroll, and account receivable. Directs these day- to-day financial functions of the organization personally or through subordinate Managers and Supervisors.

Management Responsibilities

Directly manages the Assistant Controller, Compliance Controller, Count Team Manager, Purchasing Manager, Analytical Accountant and the Inventory Control Specialist. This position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units/departments. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, directing and ensuring the completion of work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Strategic Oversight: Set strategic priorities for ECM development in alignment with organizational objectives. Ensure that developmental initiatives are integrated into departmental plans.
  • Culture Building: Foster a culture that values continuous learning, professional advancement, and the sharing of knowledge across teams.
  • Cross-Team Initiatives: Champion and facilitate cross-functional developmental programs, promoting collaboration and the exchange of best practices.
  • Program Evaluation: Regularly assess the effectiveness of the Pathways to Success programs, soliciting feedback and making data-driven improvements.
  • Leadership Pipeline: Identify and nurture high-potential talent, preparing future leaders through targeted development opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Primarily responsible to the Chief Financial Officer for timely and accurate generation of all financial information related to financial statement generation and routine processing for the organization, including but not limited to daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual information.
  • Ensure financial records, reports and statements comply with all Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Governmental Accounting Standards Boards along while meeting National Indian Gaming Commissions requirements. Responsible for reviewing monthly/quarterly account reconciliations, all financial reports or statements and other documents to ensure this compliance.
  • Provides technical accounting GAAP guidance and support to all departments. At times, this may include involvement in due diligence and other activities surrounding acquisitions/dispositions.
  • Accountable for ensuring that policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place to provide reasonable assurance that the company assets are protected.
  • Ensures compliance with internal controls as required by Community, State and Federal agencies.
  • Prepares financial studies, pro-formas and analysis of existing and proposed business entities.
  • Interprets financial reports, profit and loss statements, and balance sheets, to produce comparison to casino/hotel/food and beverage industry trends.
  • Prepares short and long-range business assumptions and financial projections on special projects; assists with the operating budgets for the Casino Operations.
  • Assists with the assessment of economic impact of proposed transactions. Assigns, coordinates, schedules, and reviews the work of staff and any other department duties as assigned.
  • Manages/supervises the completion of Federal, State, SRPMIC, and other tax reporting requirements, insurance reports and other reports required by government regulation. Also, assist tax department with dealing with tax related issues and meeting reporting requirements.
  • Act with the right of Power of Attorney to communicate with and be the liaison between the Enterprises and the Internal Revenue Service which also includes monitoring the renewal of the Gaming Industry Tip Compliance Agreement and assures the accuracy of the overall company-wide tip reporting procedures.
  • Performs the duties as the designated Enterprises Bank Secrecy Act Officer with comprehensive oversight and assures the effectiveness of the Enterprises AML Compliance Program.
  • Serves as the designated Custodian of Player records including but not limited to interacting with law enforcement agencies, responding to subpoenas, and testifying in a court of law, as needed.
  • Oversees the annual and quarterly reporting along with approving payments as it relates to agreements entered into by and between the Enterprises and all Performing Rights Organizations (PRO) inclusive of ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and GMR.
  • Manages banking relationships, contracts and negotiations.
  • Ensure that the computer system continues to operate as required. Involved in validating/designing suggested changes to ensure accounting requirements continue to be met.
  • Coordinates work relating to both internal and external audits in the periodic review of the enterprises financial records. Is further responsible for the implementation of agreed upon recommendations, related to areas of responsibility, resulting from the audit findings.
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Works closely with the Community Treasurer’s office and other Community Departments as may be assigned.
  • Hires and trains Tribal Members consistent with the casino’s Community and Indian Preference guidelines.
  • Performs duties in a cooperative manner and maintains positive relationships with all co-workers to ensure the success of the department and the company.
  • Acts as a role model, always presenting oneself as a credit to Casino Arizona/Talking Stick Resort and encourages others to do the same.
  • Maintains complete confidentiality at all times.
  • Safeguards all assets.

Education And/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in accounting from four-year college or university; advanced degree or CPA designation a plus; 10 years of hands-on accounting managerial experience in an accounting environment in the hospitality or gaming industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

CPA preferred.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a strong PC skills and knowledge of Accounting software; Database software; Payroll systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Other Qualifications

Must have strong management and communication skills. Must be a fully involved manager and be able to work harmoniously with both employees and other management personnel. Must be able to multitask, motivate staff and hold employees accountable for performance.

Language Skills

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
