What are the responsibilities and job description for the Global Engineering Compliance Manager position at Hatco Corporation?
POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Manage product listings and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Represent the company in certification processes focusing on product testing, design criteria, and regulations. Oversee staff to meet objectives.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Obtain and maintain product approvals and listings, including but not limited to, safety, sanitary, efficiency, and environmental standards.
- Coordinate with listing and certification agencies like UL, CSA, NSF, ETL, and CE. Publish monthly reports on approval statuses and certification issues.
- Secure appropriate approvals for foreign and emerging markets as directed.
- Handle budgets for compliance activities, track and forecast expenses. Give time and cost estimates for new product development. Manage capital budget for labs and equipment.
- Offer assistance and information to customers, sales representatives, and customer service when needed.
- Coordinate with Quality departments to perform regular factory audits to check compliance with standards. Coordinate and support factory and lab audits as required by certification bodies.
- Work with product development to guide designs for compliance and reduce certification time and costs. Direct lab personnel to collaborate with design engineers and conduct tests during development and certification.
- Operate and maintain test labs at Hatco manufacturing locations, compliant with ISO 17025 and certified under UL's "Client Test Data Program".
- Supervise engineering and lab staff.
- Conduct preliminary testing to ensure compliance with CE directives before third party lab verification. Arrange external lab testing for CE when necessary.
- Inform management of the limitations of the test lab and when it is necessary or preferable to conduct lab work outside of Hatco.
- Provide technical assistance to Engineering and collaborate with Purchasing to offer alternative component sources. Support Equipment Sales, Service, Advertising, and other departments with technical documents and standards-related issues as needed.
- Advise design engineers on agency requirements and address all variances until resolved.
- Stay updated on advancements in engineering, approvals, and competitive products by attending trade shows, seminars, and professional society meetings.
- Observe regulatory updates related to product markets. Notify management and implement necessary measures.
- Stay informed on environmental and sustainability reporting trends. Assist with sustainability reporting when needed.
- Assess alternative agencies for diverse domestic and international standards and liaise with various manufacturers regarding the agencies they employ.
- Maintain company databases related to compliance and markings.
- Supervise staff and perform assigned performance reviews.
- Perform other tasks assigned by senior management.

EDUCATIONAL OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related science.
- 10 years of experience in electrical or electronic systems.
- 10 years of experience in dealing with various approval agencies both domestic and international.
