Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C) delivers exceptional performance in leading the nation's largest and most complex waste cleanup. H2C is safely removing, treating, and disposing of 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and chemical waste at the Hanford site in Washington State and spans all disciplines of engineering and science through a highly integrated and innovative organization.

H2C seeks an Engineer to join the Tank Side Cesium Removal (TSCR) Engineering team. This position is directly supporting plant operations providing real time problem solving in a fast-paced operations and maintenance environment. Daily coordination with H2C and subcontractor engineering teams as well as Operations & Maintenance team members to ensure smooth, 24/7 operations of TSCR. The operation of TSCR directly supports the Department of Energy's key objective to provide direct feed of Hanford Tank Waste to the Waste Treatment Plant (WTP).

The Engineer filling these roles will:
  • Act as a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter or the functional area of the assignments.
  • Plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.
  • Demonstrate interpolative patterned thinking and require minimal guidance.
  • Function as a team member or lead a task force or special assignment.

Meet the following scope and expectations:
  • Perform engineering calculations, analysis, studies, and recommendations for a specialized segment of engineering within schedule and budget of an assigned project.
  • Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field.
  • General knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Develop and sustain productive customer relationships.
  • Prepare Statements of Work, design products, procurements, specifications, etc.
  • Function as a team member consisting of both internal and external resources
  • Assist in technical and cost/benefit evaluations and development of task plans and schedules.
  • Prepare design media.
  • Prepare Engineering documents, evaluations, and calculations.
  • Perform routine administrative activities/duties on time (routine training, safety meetings, TIS, continuing training, staff meetings).
  • Ensure all documents prepared are of "stand alone" quality.
  • Seek to understand engineering work assignments and to be self-directed.
  • Be customer service oriented, completing assignments safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Provide technical guidance to subcontractors in the execution of design (e.g., ensure use of correct design inputs, utilization of accepted analysis methodologies, design standards, and verification methods).

Required Qualifications
Grade 17:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in an Engineering discipline or related technical discipline; and
Four (4) years related experience

Grade 18:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in an Engineering discipline or related technical discipline; and
Six (6) years related experience
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.

Grade 19:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in an Engineering discipline or related technical discipline; and
Eight (8) years related experience
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.

Desired Qualifications
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills needed to facilitate operations and maintenance of and operational nuclear waste processing facility.
Must be able to clearly and concisely communicate to peers, operations & maintenance personnel and management.
Must take prompt action to accomplish assigned objectives and understand/identify issues and opportunities.
Previous experience in a nuclear facility.

Compensation & Benefits
In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, H2C takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial grade and salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made at the appropriate grade level and within the targeted hiring range posted according to these factors. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.

Hiring Range Minimum: $99,063
Hiring Range Maximum: $151,038
