Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in implementing social-emotional learning programs and activities in the classroom.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students experiencing social or emotional challenges.
- Monitor student behavior and provide guidance to help them develop effective coping strategies.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other school staff to create individualized support plans for students.
- Facilitate conflict resolution and promote positive peer interactions among students.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior and communicate regularly with teachers.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development opportunities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or school administration.
- Assist in creating a safe and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect and understanding among students.
- Assist with the supervision of students during lunch, recess, and other non-instructional periods.
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree or higher in education, psychology, social work, or a related field preferred.
- Strong understanding of social-emotional learning concepts and strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help students succeed emotionally and socially.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take direction from teachers and administrators.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to pass a fingerprint-based background check per school board policy.
