Responsibilities
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide one-on-one support to students during instructional activities, helping them to understand and engage with the curriculum.
- Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and participation, reporting any concerns to the teacher.
- Support students in developing social skills and fostering positive relationships with peers.
- Adapt instructional materials and activities to meet the unique needs of students.
- Assist with classroom management and maintain a safe, orderly learning environment.
- Collaborate with special education staff, therapists, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive support for students.
- Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or school administration.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of study at an institute of higher education preferred.
- Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help students succeed.
- Ability to pass a fingerprint-based background check and comply with all school district policies and procedures.
- Availability to work part-time hours, as determined by the school schedule.
