Full-time (40 hours per week)

Base Hourly:

$20.76

Class/Calendar:

B22, 12 months

Performance Pay:

Available annually

New Hire Experience:

1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum

New Hire Education:

1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position

 

Job Summary:

 

To layout, install and repair sprinkler system; to program automatic controllers; to maintain the cleanliness and safe conditions of a school environment.

 

Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Grounds.  Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform all types of repairs and maintenance on P.V.C. and copper underground lines for irrigation system
  • Install, repair or replace valves, controllers, sprinkler heads, risers, and back flow preventers low voltage wiring, etc.
  • Design, layout and install new systems or add to/update existing systems
  • Regular and on-time attendance required
  • Operate various power equipment and hand tools for repair and installation of systems
  • Collect information data for reports to the State Department of Water Resources (D.W.R.)
  • Perform and assist other crews in additional related landscape tasks
  • Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
  • Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must have a valid vehicle operator’s license
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in sprinkler system installation, repair and layout
  • Experience and knowledge working with low voltage electric wiring

  • Must be able to read and work from blueprints or drawings
  • Must have a working knowledge of manual and electric solenoid valves
  • Must be able to program and have working knowledge of all types of automatic controllers
  • Must be physically fit to perform duties; must be able to lift approximately 100 lbs.
  • Must have a working knowledge of tools, materials, equipment, methods and safe working conditions of the trade
  • Must have working knowledge of back flow prevention devices; ability to sweat copper lines and fittings together
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, employees and school staff; good written and verbal communication skills 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Most work is conducted outdoors on school grounds, such as athletic fields, playgrounds, and landscaped areas. Workers are exposed to various weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and sun
  • Work may span multiple campuses within the school district, requiring travel between sites (often using a district vehicle)
  • Tasks may be done solo or with other maintenance staff, depending on the size and complexity of the job
  • Frequently lift and carry materials and equipment weighing 25–50 pounds or more (e.g., sprinkler heads, valves, piping, digging tools)
  • Use of hand tools and small components requires good hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity
  • Frequent kneeling, crouching, or bending to install or repair sprinkler heads or piping underground
