Position: Chemist III

Our client is seeking an experienced Chemist III to lead analytical method development and validation for drinking water and emerging contaminants (including PFAS). This role is ideal for a subject matter expert who can independently drive EPA method implementation, ensure data defensibility, and support lab operations at a high level.

Job Description
- Lead development, optimization, validation, and implementation of EPA drinking water methods
- Design and execute validation studies (MDLs, precision, accuracy, linearity, robustness)
- Perform advanced data review (chromatograms, mass spectra, ion ratios, audit trails)
- Troubleshoot complex issues across GC-MS and LC-MS/MS platforms
- Establish QC criteria, reporting limits, and ensure regulatory compliance
- Author and maintain SOPs and technical documentation
- Lead method transfer to routine lab operations
- Train and mentor laboratory staff on validated methods
- Support internal/external audits and proficiency testing
- Partner with QA, project managers, and lab leadership on compliance strategy
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related field
- 5 years of experience in an environmental or analytical laboratory
- Strong experience with GC-MS and LC-MS/MS
- Proven experience in developing and implementing EPA drinking water methods
- Experience operating within a Quality Management System (QMS)
- Excellent documentation, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Experience across a broad range of EPA methods (method development, not just execution)
- Strong background in contaminants such as PFAS, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and disinfection byproducts
- Experience with sample prep techniques (SPE, LLE)
