This position is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the County’s network infrastructure, with a focus on performance, reliability, and security. The IT Network Administrator manages Layer 2/3 switching, wireless networks, and firewall systems for network security. This role works closely with other IT staff to ensure secure, high-availability connectivity across all systems and services, supporting both on-premises and cloud-based environments.
Preferred candidates should have technical expertise with a strong understanding of routing and switching protocols. Familiarity with technical, network management tools is a plus.
• This position assists with the design, implementation, and maintenance of the County’s network infrastructure, with a focus on performance, reliability, and security
• The IT Network Administrator manages Layer 2/3 switching, wireless networks, and firewall systems and helps manage network security
• This role works closely with other IT staff to ensure secure, high-availability connectivity across all systems and services, supporting both on-premises and cloud-based environments
• Network Infrastructure: Install, monitor, maintain, and optimize the performance of network infrastructure, including Layer 3 switches, routers, and wireless access points, with a focus on Cisco environments
• Network Security Administration: Serve as the lead for network security, implementing and maintaining firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and security protocols to protect institutional data and systems
• Firewall Configuration and Management: Configure, monitor, and maintain firewall rules and policies to ensure secure and efficient network traffic flow, including VPN and remote access configurations
• Wireless Network Management: Administer and troubleshoot wireless networks, ensuring optimal coverage, performance, and security across all campus locations
• Network Performance and Capacity Planning: Conduct regular performance analysis and capacity planning to ensure the network infrastructure meets current and future demands.
• Incident Response and Troubleshooting: Respond to and resolve network-related incidents and outages; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
• Network Documentation and Procedures: Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for network architecture, configurations, and standard operating procedures
• Collaboration and Support: Work closely with the IT System Administrator and other IT staff to ensure seamless integration between systems and networks; provide Tier 2/3 support for network-related issues
• Vendor and Contract Management: Coordinate with vendors for network hardware, software, and services; manage support contracts and service level agreements (SLAs)
• Network Hardware Lifecycle Management: Recommend and manage the lifecycle of network hardware and related components
• Training and Awareness: Provide training and guidance to staff on secure network practices and emerging threats
• Disaster Recovery and Redundancy Planning: Design and maintain network redundancy and disaster recovery strategies to ensure high availability and business continuity
• Perform all duties in accordance with County policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations
• Associate’s degree in a related field required
• 3-5 years of related IT experience is required
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Process management experience is preferred
• Experience working with Cisco network infrastructure is preferred
Salary : $60,000 - $80,000
