Shop Manager
Department: Field Operations / Logistics
Reports To: General DC Manager
Shift: Full-Time (6:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday)
Position Summary
The Shop Manager is the central operational leader responsible for all facility logistics, inventory control, and equipment readiness to ensure the efficient deployment of all Green Shield and Northern Arbor Decking crews. This role requires disciplined adherence to safety protocols, precise inventory management, and firm oversight of the shop environment.
Core Responsibilities
1. Inventory & Supply Chain Management
- Inventory Control: Manage all stock transfers, maintain accurate inventory levels of consumables and hardware, and process purchase orders in Fishbowl for materials like deck stain and bulk hardware.
- Returns Processing: Accurately process material returns from crews at the end of projects, documenting all large returns on paper.
Material Coordination: Monitor the material request spreadsheet, ensuring crews receive or coordinate the pickup/delivery of all necessary materials.
- Specialty Items: Receive and coordinate delivery of Pergolas and Gazebos (ordered by Production), verifying size and color accuracy before dispatching to job sites.
- Warehouse Organization: Stack and organize extra return material accessible for Hilow pickup and loading onto delivery trucks (DC Trucks).
- Shop Layout: Learn and maintain precise parts locations; supervise and enforce shop organization—nothing moves or is taken without explicit approval.
- Communication: Immediately inform management when Inventory is below PAR level and take initiative to order necessary material to prevent production delays.
2. Equipment & Transportation
- Heavy Equipment Operation: Operate the Hilow (forklift), Avant/Dingo, and ground screw equipment.
- Ground Screw Installation: Perform post hole digging and ground screw installation using the Avant/Dingo, utilizing the required app to obtain and verify precise torque specifications.
- Safety & Compliance: Maintain Driver DOT Certification to transport and load equipment (Dingo/Avant), ensuring safe strapping and transport protocols are strictly followed.
- Equipment Handling: Perform heavy lifting, particularly for Dingo/Avant attachments; manage the transport of trailers to and from logo wrapping/repair lots.
- PM equipment regularly: Regularly check and perform basic preventative maintenance on shop equipment to include: Oil changes for forklift/Dingo, Check air filters, Check hydraulic lines before and after use of heavy equipment. Replace worn saw blades on concrete saws/core drills.
3. Shop Management & Facility Maintenance
- Opening/Closing: Responsible for opening and shutting down the shop facility daily (6:00 AM – 4:00 PM shift).
- Crew Efficiency: Supervise crew check-ins and check-outs, ensuring crews are processed and exit the shop in a timely manner (target of no more than 20 minutes).
- Cleanliness & Recycling: Maintain a clean shop environment, removing all trash; manage the recycling of scrap aluminum cut-offs in PADNOS bins and coordinate their pickup using the Hilo.
- Administrative Support: Check the mail, and process necessary administrative paperwork.
4. Communication & Reporting
Management Liaison:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for management, supervisors, and crews, requiring constant availability to assist with urgent operational needs.
Project Flow:
- Coordinate with Production, informing them when jobs are ready for measure or when a material hold is necessary due to changes; check job orders for glass measurements and update material lists as required.
- Daily and Weekly Reporting: Maintain daily logs of work completed on job site and provide weekly reports and workflow updates to the DC Manager.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proficiency in Inventory Management Software (e.g., Fishbowl).
- Mandatory certifications: Driver DOT Certification, DOT Medical Card, and
- Dingo/Forklift Training.
- Physical capacity for heavy lifting (required for Dingo/Avant attachments).
- Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail regarding
- inventory and compliance.
- Strong communication and people skills
