Poultney Elementary School-School Nurse 2026-2027- Poultney Elementary School is seeking a full-time school nurse beginning the 2026-2027 school year. The individual in this position plays an integral role in building relationships and helping to keep our students and staff healthy and safe. Among job responsibilities, the ideal candidate will possess strong nursing knowledge, effective communication, organization and collaboration skills, the ability to remain flexible and pivot direction and duties as needed, and the ability to establish a positive rapport with students, staff, and families. Responsibilities of the school nurse include: Providing nursing assessment, treatment, first aid and emergency care using strong critical thinking skills.
Administering and monitoring medications taken at school, as well as delegation of appropriate school nursing tasks when necessary. Maintaining annual standing physician orders for stock Epinephrine and over-the-counter medications. Managing & implementing medical action plans (allergy, asthma, etc.) as needed. Maintaining comprehensive and confidential student health records that are compliant with federal, state, and local regulations (remaining proficient in current technology for health record databases used throughout the district).
Developing and implementing individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic health conditions. Managing communicable diseases. Collaborating with parents, and medical and health care communities to promote delivery of health care services for students. Maintaining AEDs kept on school grounds.
Maintaining confidentiality. Communicating with families and staff regarding health-related issues and providing health-related resources and referrals. Promoting school-wide wellness through health education. Collaborating with school administration and staff as needed.
Maintaining appropriate health supplies and equipment in the health office. Preparing and submitting annual Vermont state health office reports. Performing yearly health screenings per Vermont School Health Services Standards of Practice. Obtaining and maintaining pre-K licensing requirements.
Job Requirements: Bachelors or Masters degree from a nursing program accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Hold (or be eligible to hold) a valid Vermont Educators License with a 3-65 school nurse endorsement. Hold a valid license as a Professional Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Vermont Hold current certifications in CPR/AED/First Aid Completion of an educational orientation program provided through the Agency of Education and based on the requirements for delivery of health services as defined in the Vermont School Quality Standards and the Vermont Manual Titled Standards of Practice: School Health Services All applicants must submit a cover letter, resume and 3 letters of reference. Candidates with the following additional qualifications are encouraged to apply: 1-3 years of relevant nursing experience
