Senior Settlements Specialist
Mid-Size Law Firm | Bergen County, NJ
Position Overview
A well-established mid-size law firm is seeking an experienced Senior Settlements Specialist to lead and oversee its settlements team. This individual will play a critical leadership role in managing trust accounting operations, supervising direct reports, and ensuring the accurate and compliant handling of settlement funds.

Key Responsibilities
• Oversee daily settlement accounting operations and trust fund activity
• Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of settlements specialists
• Manage workload distribution and ensure deadlines are met across the team
• Review and approve settlement statements prior to attorney and client distribution
• Ensure accurate recording of incoming settlement proceeds in the accounting system
• Oversee preparation and reconciliation of distribution schedules
• Approve and monitor outgoing trust disbursements
• Ensure compliance with IOLTA and trust accounting regulations
• Reconcile trust accounts and review team reconciliations for accuracy
• Coordinate firm fee transfers from trust to operating accounts
• Partner closely with attorneys, finance leadership, and external financial institutions
• Identify and implement process improvements within settlement operations
Qualifications
• 5 years of law firm settlement or trust accounting experience
• Prior experience supervising or leading a team required
• Strong knowledge of trust/IOLTA accounting rules and compliance standards
• Experience with legal accounting systems (ProLaw or similar preferred)
• Advanced reconciliation and problem-solving skills
