Position Summary
The Head of Accounting will lead all accounting functions for a growing credit union, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong financial controls while contributing to broader financial strategy. Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting operations: general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and fixed assets
- Own the month-end and year-end close process with a focus on efficiency and accuracy
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Ensure full compliance with National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) regulations and call reporting
- Act as the primary point of contact for audits, exams, and regulatory interactions
- Build, refine, and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies
- Partner with the CFO and executive team on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic initiatives
- Provide insight into financial performance, trends, and opportunities for growth
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team
- Drive process improvements, automation, and system enhancements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred)
- 7-12 years of accounting experience in a bank or credit union
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to build and develop teams
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance
- Experience working with auditors, regulators, and executive leadership
- Ability to think beyond debits and credits - connecting accounting to business strategy
