Gentis Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer for an onsite 11-month engagement focused on designing, implementing, and supporting material handling and automation systems at scale. The Systems Engineer will work across controls engineering, large-scale automation deployment, and system integration projects for advanced manufacturing and distribution environments.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in industrial automation, PLC/IPC controls, material handling systems, and integrated automation solutions. This role requires strong project execution skills, technical leadership, and an ability to work in fast-moving, detail-oriented engineering environments.
What You’ll Do (Job Description):
- Lead the design, deployment, and support of integrated automation solutions including material handling, high-speed packaging, and manufacturing lines.
- Manage and execute material handling or automation projects from concept through installation.
- Deploy and install PLC/IPC controls solutions (Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Codesys preferred).
- Automate, deploy, and support large-scale industrial infrastructure.
- Implement and support CI/CD processes for controls code deployment.
- Troubleshoot and optimize industrial networks (Profibus, ASi, Industrial Ethernet).
- Coordinate cross-functional engineering activities, including controls, mechanical, electrical, and operations.
- Create or support automated alarming, reporting, and KPI dashboards for plant and operational visibility.
- Maintain documentation including project schedules, code deployment notes, and technical requirements.
- Communicate technical status, risks, and solutions across engineering and operations teams.
- Travel up to 20% domestically to support installations, troubleshooting, or system rollouts.
What We’re Looking For (Must Haves):
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or similar — or equivalent experience.
- 5 years in a relevant engineering role (Project Engineer, Process Engineer, Project Manager, Manufacturing Engineer, or Control Systems Engineer).
- Experience managing material handling or automation projects.
- Strong background in automation deployment and supporting large-scale infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience designing or implementing integrated automation systems.
- Experience with PLC/IPC code deployment (Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Codesys preferred).
- Experience with CI/CD pipeline build processes.
- Understanding of industrial networking: Profibus, ASi, Industrial Ethernet, and general Ethernet networking concepts.
- Strong organizational, time management, and detail-oriented execution skills.
Preferred (Nice-to-Have Skills):
- Experience working in Operations Management or Distribution Center environments.
- Leadership experience managing material handling, automation, or technical projects.
- Repeated success leading complex industrial engineering projects or programs.
- Experience building automated alarms, reports, and KPI metrics for operational management.
- Additional depth with integrated automation solutions across packaging, conveyors, manufacturing, or robotics.
