Senior Mechanical Engineer
Location: Plymouth, MN | Full-Time | $100,000–$140,000 DOE
Our client is a premier provider of custom mechanization for iconic structures and attractions that create unforgettable experiences. Partnering with architects, engineers, and construction managers, they deliver innovative, reliable, and fully integrated systems for complex projects across industries including Aerospace, Entertainment, Stadiums & Ballparks, Telescope Observatories, and Custom Cranes.
They are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and execution of highly customized mechanized structures and systems. This is an opportunity to work on landmark projects from concept through installation in a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment.
Responsibilities
- Design complex mechanical systems including actuators, gearing, bearings, weldments, wheels, and related assemblies
- Develop engineering concepts, calculations, and detailed mechanical designs for custom projects
- Serve as Project Engineer, overseeing design, implementation, scheduling, and technical execution
- Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams to meet project milestones and deliverables
- Collaborate directly with clients to ensure project objectives and expectations are achieved
- Participate in design reviews with contractors, architects, consultants, and project stakeholders
- Coordinate with electrical, structural, purchasing, manufacturing, and field teams throughout project execution
- Develop prototype designs, testing procedures, and commissioning plans
- Supervise prototype testing, troubleshooting, and reporting activities
- Visit manufacturing and vendor sites to inspect and test components prior to shipment
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to quality, performance, manufacturability, and maintenance
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
- 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, custom machinery, or related industries
- Experience designing complex mechanical systems and managing engineering risk
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, fabrication methods, and system integration
- Proficiency with engineering and analysis software such as:
- SolidWorks
- SolidWorks Simulation
- MathCAD
- ANSYS
- GD&T
- Ability to independently solve complex technical challenges and manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication and leadership skills in cross-functional team environments
- Must qualify as a U.S. Person under ITAR regulations
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- EIT certification or PE license
- Experience with motors, hydraulics, actuators, and gearing systems
- Hands-on fabrication or machine shop experience
- Experience supporting installation and commissioning activities
