We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Payroll Specialist to oversee complex, multi‑union payroll operations across several labor‑intensive industries. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, is detail‑oriented, and has deep experience working with multiple unions at a given time. You will serve as the subject-matter expert on payroll processing, compliance, systems administration, and union requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end‑to‑end payroll processing for weekly, bi‑weekly, and union-specific cycles.
- Manage payroll for 10–20 active unions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to all collective bargaining agreements.
- Interpret and apply union contracts, wage rates, deductions, fringes, and benefit rules.
- Maintain payroll data within Paylocity and Kronos, ensuring clean, accurate system inputs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll inquiries, union representatives, auditors, and internal leadership.
- Reconcile payroll discrepancies, verify hours, overtime, shift differentials, and job-cost coding.
- Collaborate with HR, Accounting, and Operations to improve payroll accuracy, workflows, and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage laws as well as union agreements.
- Train and mentor junior payroll staff.
Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of payroll processing experience, specifically with multi‑union payroll.
- Strong background in industries such as construction, engineering, steel, machinery, or similar union-heavy sectors.
- Proficiency with Paylocity and Kronos required.
- High level of accuracy, discretion, and the ability to handle complex payroll structures.
- Strong knowledge of wage laws, labor regulations, and union payroll practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- No degree required; degree preferred but not necessary.
