Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Stamping Process Engineer to drive innovation, efficiency, and quality within our stamping operations. Based outside Hagerstown, MD, this role will focus on optimizing existing press processes, introducing new equipment and layout enhancements, and ensuring our manufacturing systems meet the highest safety and performance standards. The engineer will also play a key role in nearshoring and insourcing initiatives, supporting new facility launches, and aligning operations with global best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and implement process improvements to increase safety, throughput, and operational efficiency across stamping operations.
- Work directly on the production floor with operators, technicians, and die makers to troubleshoot press performance, optimize die setups, and refine workflows.
- Evaluate, specify, and validate new stamping equipment, presses, dies, and auxiliary systems to ensure readiness for production.
- Support tooling and die development efforts, collaborating with suppliers to ensure designs meet quality, durability, and performance standards.
- Develop and standardize best practices for raw material handling and auxiliary equipment, such as uncoilers, straighteners, feeders, conveyors, robotic arms, and lubrication systems.
- Provide input on facility layout and capital investment decisions to maximize productivity and ensure future scalability.
- Contribute to nearshoring projects and site launches, advising on process flow, staffing, and equipment requirements.
- Champion the use of Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement tools to solve problems, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
- Document processes, prepare technical reports, and present updates to leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Travel domestically and internationally to collaborate with global suppliers and align best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Metallurgical, or Mechatronics Engineering (or related field).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in stamping operations with hands-on knowledge of press setup, die changeover, and process optimization.
- Strong background in metal forming processes, die setup, and equipment troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in CAD software, process simulation tools, and production modeling.
- Familiarity with quality and process standards including DFM, PFMEA, APQP, and PPAP.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and die simulation software preferred.
- Knowledge of related manufacturing processes (injection molding, CNC machining, roll forming, assembly, etc.) is a plus.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and project management tools such as Smartsheet.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel and support international projects as needed.
