Accounts Payable Manager
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Accounts Payable Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of the Accounts Payable function in a dynamic, multi-entity environment. This role will be responsible for managing day-to-day AP operations, leading a team of accounting professionals, driving process improvements, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership experience, extensive knowledge of Accounts Payable best practices, and hands-on experience with Workday Financials.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily Accounts Payable operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, vendor payments, ACH transactions, wire transfers, and employee expense reimbursements.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop Accounts Payable staff while fostering a collaborative, high-performance team environment.
- Establish and maintain effective internal controls, accounting procedures, and compliance standards across multiple business entities.
- Monitor workload distribution, assign projects, and ensure departmental goals, deadlines, and service level expectations are achieved.
- Review and optimize Accounts Payable policies, procedures, and workflows to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Identify opportunities for automation and process enhancements, including invoice automation and workflow improvements.
- Prepare and analyze operational metrics, management reports, and key performance indicators to support decision-making.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, external audits, and financial reporting requirements.
- Oversee vendor onboarding and maintenance, 1099 reporting, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Serve as the subject matter expert and functional lead for Workday Financials, including system testing, validation, issue resolution, user support, and training.
- Partner closely with Finance, Accounting, Operations, and IT teams to support system implementations, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Drive a culture of accountability, customer service, and operational excellence within the Accounts Payable function.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in an Accounts Payable Manager or comparable leadership role.
- Experience supervising and developing teams of 8 or more employees.
- Proven experience managing Accounts Payable operations in a multi-company or multi-entity environment.
- Hands-on experience with Workday Financials.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, and Accounts Payable best practices.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, ERP systems, and accounting software.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret, analyze, and manage large volumes of data.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of an organization.
Preferred
- Experience supporting ERP implementations, system upgrades, or financial system conversions.
- Familiarity with invoice automation, OCR technology, and workflow optimization tools.
- Knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax regulations, federal reporting requirements, and 1099 compliance.
