Overview:
A leading construction and infrastructure services company is seeking a Payroll Specialist II to join its growing accounting and HR operations team. This position will ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing across multiple job sites and divisions. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, experience with multi-state payroll, and a working knowledge of construction payroll requirements (including certified payroll reporting).
Key Responsibilities:
- Process bi-weekly payroll for salaried and hourly employees across multiple states and job classifications.
- Maintain accurate employee records, deductions, and timekeeping data in the payroll system.
- Prepare and submit certified payroll reports for public works projects.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies promptly and professionally.
- Coordinate with HR to ensure correct employee onboarding, benefit deductions, and terminations.
- Collaborate with accounting on journal entries, payroll allocations, and month-end close support.
- Generate and review payroll reports to ensure data integrity and support internal audits.
- Assist with annual W-2 processing and other year-end compliance activities.
Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of progressive payroll experience; construction or field-based environment preferred.
- Strong understanding of FLSA, wage & hour laws, and multi-state payroll compliance.
- Experience with certified payroll reporting highly preferred.
- Proficiency in payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information.
Preferred Attributes:
- Familiarity with union payroll, prevailing wage, and project-based pay structures.
- Experience integrating payroll data with accounting or ERP systems.
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification a plus.
