Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Director to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department. Reporting to the VP/Controller, this role is critical in ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, maintaining regulatory compliance within the insurance industry, and providing leadership to the accounting team. You’ll have four direct reports (AP/AP, Staff Accountant).

Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting & Compliance: Manage general ledger functions and ensure technical oversight of NAIC statutory filings, State Insurance department filings, and SOX internal audit processes.
- Budget Management: Lead the annual budget process, including the review of exhibits and presentations, while monitoring expenses and quarterly variances throughout the year.
- Operational Oversight: Supervise Accounts Payable (including 1099s) and Accounts Receivable staff to ensure accurate cash deposits, billings, and month-end reconciliations.
- Audit & Examination Coordination: Act as the primary point of coordination for external audits and state insurance examinations.
- Specialized Accounting: Manage the administration and accounting for Reinsurance Contracts.
- Executive Support: Assist senior leadership (SR VP and VP of Accounting) in preparing high-level presentations for regulators, policyholders, and board-level seminars.
- Team Leadership: Supervise the Financial Assistant and Staff Accountant, providing guidance on process improvements and adherence to company policies.
Required
- Masters degree, and/or CPA designation
- 5 years’ Accounting
- 1 years’ Accounting team leadership
- Experience with Statutory Accounting and NAIC regulations within the Insurance industry
