Pad Yard Inspector/Labor (Raleigh, NC)

The Pad Material Inspector is responsible for inspecting and evaluating all incoming material loads delivered to the shredder facility’s material pad at our Raleigh Metal Recycling Yard. This role ensures that all materials meet quality and safety standards before processing in the shredder. The inspector will identify and segregate non-conforming materials, maintain accurate records, and collaborate with the operations team to ensure efficient and safe processing of recyclable metals.

Responsibilities

• Material Inspection: Thoroughly inspect each incoming load dumped on the material pad for quality, composition, and compliance with facility standards. Identify and segregate non-metallic materials, hazardous items (e.g., batteries, gas tanks, or radioactive materials), and non-ferrous metals that require separate processing.
• Quality Control: Verify that materials align with company specifications for shredding, including size, type, and cleanliness. Reject or flag loads containing prohibited items or excessive contaminants.
• Safety Compliance: Ensure all inspected materials comply with environmental and safety regulations, including OSHA and EPA guidelines. Report any hazardous or non-compliant materials immediately.
• Coordination: Work closely with scale operators, crane operators, and shredder personnel to manage the flow of materials and address any issues with incoming loads.
• Equipment Use: Operate handheld tools, such as magnets or metal analyzers, to identify material types. May assist with minor sorting or movement of materials using forklifts or other equipment (training provided).
• Housekeeping: Ensure the material pad area remains organized and free of debris to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
• Continuous Improvement: Provide feedback on material quality trends and suggest improvements to streamline inspection and processing workflows.

Requirements

• Proven experience in quality inspection or a related field.
• Strong understanding of quality management systems and processes.
• Familiarity with vision inspection systems and data collection methods.
• Ability to perform quality audits effectively.
• Knowledge of CGMP and FDA regulations is a plus but not required.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in outdoor conditions (heat, cold, dust, or rain).
