What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sunday School Teacher position at First Presbyterian Church?
QUALIFICATIONS
The Sunday School Teacher, in coordination with the Christian Discipleship Ministry Coordinator, is a ministry position whose primary responsibility is to create a safe and welcoming environment for children to learn and develop their faith in a Christian community.
Teachers should have a strong faith and commitment to Christian values, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They should be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the students and the church Christian Education Program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
With guidance from the Christian Discipleship Coordinator:
· Plan lessons that align with the curriculum and are age-appropriate
· Teach lessons during Sunday School time, supervising and guiding children as they complete lessons and projects. CDM Coordinator will assign specific class to be taught as need dictates. Classes are K-2nd, 3rd – 5th, and 6th – 12th.
· Communicate with parents about their child’s progress and any concerns.
· Work with other teachers, the coordinator, the Christian Discipleship Ministry Team and the pastor to present the Christian Education Program.
· Maintain the Sunday School area, assuring it is clean and presentable, and all supplies are available.
· Assist with special Sunday School events when possible. (example: Christmas Pageant)
· Follow all church guidelines and the Child and Youth Protective Policy.
· Attend appropriate team meetings and training sessions.
EVALUATION
Responsible to the Christian Discipleship Ministries Coordinator and the Christian Discipleship Ministry Team.
Performance will be evaluated following a 3-month trial period and annually thereafter by the CDM Coordinator and the CDM Team with the guidance of the pastor and the Administrative Team.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is an hourly at will position, 4-6 hours per week, the first week of Sept. thru the Sunday before Memorial Day in May. Salary is set by Session upon the recommendation of the Christian Discipleship Ministry and Administrative Teams.
Hours are Sunday 8:45 – noon with up to 2 other hours, arranged by CDM Coordinator and/or CDM Team, as needed for training, lesson preparation and planning, and CDM team meetings.
